Blog #1: No Tan Lions, No Curtains

Havin' a blast and we ain't even lion. After a 20 hour drive in our valiant steeds (read: Mini-vans) White Lightning and Black Thunder and a pit-stop in Nashville, we finally arrived at Mary Help of Christians church in the tropical, snowless Tampa. We made a quick run to Wally World (Wal-Mart, you guys) for necessary items and then we set up camp on the stage in the gymnasium provided by the ever generous Kay and Tom, who also brought us noms.

Being the adorable group that we are, we pushed our cots together in the spirit of a true slumber party so we could have serious pillow talk about first kisses and choose songs that would sound best performed by our newly assembled acapella group (White Lighting & the Butts ® CDS coming to a Target near you).

After a good nights rest, we rounded up the troops and headed for Big Cat Rescue. There, Gale and Tom led us to a forest of debris and hours of work to be done. Together, we managed to fill two dumpsters with old wood and trash. We broke for lunch and were able to see a few of the animals. Two tigers, China Doll and Shere Khan lounged in their grassy cages while we awed at their beauty. We were also introduced to Max the bobcat, who leaped about on his playground. >

Once lunch was finished we headed back to the forest to pull weeds, trim palmettos, and compile mulching materials. It's safe to say that we all now have forearms comparable to Zeus.

The day flew by, but we have three more days to look forward to! For now, we're going to dinner for some old-fashioned group bonding. See you cats and kittens later.

Love you!
Jess, Adriana, and the team
