Blog #3: We Thought This Was Florida

We woke up bright and early for another glorious day of service in what may have been perceived as the Antarctic for Floridians. On the bright side this morning, Betsy did open a double pink starburst so that makes the day seem a little more promising. At which point, Andrew then professed his love of skittles, even though he claims he does not like sweets. So we loaded into our faithful black thunder and white lightening for another day of service.

When we arrived at Big Cat Rescue, we were greeted by staff who were dressed from head to toe as if they were lost in the harsh winters of Russia-2 hats, 2 pairs of gloves, long pants, and 3 sweatshirts. It's 57 degrees. We laughed and sent some love to our friends and family with a foot of snow in Missouri.

We hauled concrete slabs and helped revamp the parking lot. Then we went to the half acre on the back of the property that we have become well acquainted with. We raked, pruned palmettos, and unearthed some invasive plants. It is so awesome to start seeing the difference we've made.

After we left Big Cat Rescue, we went to a nearby park for a late lunch, from there we headed to St. Petersburg Pier. We all shared some ice cream and did a little souvenir shopping. Then we rode in a glass elevator up 5 stories for an incredible view of the ocean, after a few pictures, we scurried back into the elevator to escape the harsh winds.

Now, back at Mary Help of Christians, we enjoyed a wonderful pot of stir fry for supper! We are heading back to the gym to play a rousing game of mafia, attack spoons, and then our traditional knock out. Needless to say, we have an intense night ahead of us.

Good night!!!
