SHP Houston-Health

After a long, awkward, and claustrophobic 13 hours car ride down to Houston Texas, we were pleased to spend our free day at the Galveston Beach to start our journey. 12 of us clicked and became awfully close in no time. Today was our first official day of serving at the Bay Area Turning Point which a shelter focused on sexual and domestic violence survivors. Our first task was to sort out various things that were on the shelves in order and that is when our superb chemistry came into play and we were able to complete the task efficiently. Then we got separated into groups to work on different tasks in different settings and got exposed to the facility that we will be working at next few days. At the end of the day, we took a step back and reflected on how privileged we are to live the lives we do. We look forward to serve these people and make a difference little by little in the rest of the week. We would like to thank Mizzou Alternative Breaks and our phenomenal site leaders for this wonderful opportunity to unplug from our world that we know and really focus on making the best out of our service experience.
