Twelve alarms by 7am... that's how the first day began. We were all getting ready with our delicious scrambled eggs, when Sianna's spaceship of an eye provided a distraction. Her eye was hurting a little the night before, however she woke up with it completely swollen shut. Our wonderful site coordinator called many friends to see what medical attention we could seek. She finally told Sianna to go to the emergency room in Portales. Then the rest of us were taken to our first site, which was on a ranch where we were to take down all of the old fences. We had to cut wire and tear wooden posts out of the ground. We decided to take a break, and climbed an 80 year old windmill. We continued our break with lunch, and then finished our work on the fences for the day. There were moving sand dunes near by and so we continued our exploration of the foreign area. Upon deciding our work was done for the day at 3pm, we all went back to the community center (our sleeping area) and met with Daniel C. and Sianna. Her swelling went down completely, and is now just a little red in the eye. We took a short break, showered, and relaxed. Dinner was at 6pm, but we were picked up at 5pm to drive to the house. A woman by the name of Betty and her family were gracious enough to provide a home cooked meal for all twelve of us. She has a daughter in college and understands how great it is to have a nice meal - seriously the mac and cheese was BOMB! There was a trampoline in back, and we all took turns jumping around - without any limbs being broken! When the sun was setting, we began a mile and a half walk around the ranch to take in our surroundings and look at the night sky. The stars out here are other worldly, and we can't get enough.
As much as we try to put it into words, we cannot do it justice. There is nothing like Milnesand, New Mexico, and we couldn't be happier that we're here.
Til tomorrow,
Milny out
