Billings - Children (4)

After a short but impactful week, saying last goodbyes to the kiddos we served at Head Start was much more difficult than we imagined it would be. Some of us got the expected goodbye with a hug and a sad remark while others were left slightly heartbroken with no formal goodbye and the kids thinking we'd be back at school on Monday. The group had an internal struggle of whether one week of service could actually make a lasting impact and memory on a child's heart and life. Tonight provided us a unique perspective because we were able to meet some of the students' families at an art show. When hearing the parents stories of what the kids told them about us, we knew we had made a lasting and powerful impact on the kids of Head Start.

It'll be tough to say goodbye to Billings tomorrow after such an influential week. The group honestly and wholeheartedly connected with the community at large and with each other. Tara, the volunteer coordinator at Head Start, told us tonight that the group served a total of 360 hours this week, which raises $5,400 for the school through government funding. It was incredible for us to serve Head Start with not only our time and energy but also aid in funding the school and its need.

Our final night here came to an end with a taco dinner too big for all of us to finish and then a tearful reflection for all of us. This group of 12 awkward students, initially all concerned about going on this trip, amazingly transformed into an MAB family who will be together in Billings all the way back home to CoMo and after.
