Memphis 1- Children & Health

Lunch- Uncle Lou’s. Coole-aid, fried chicken, and Colin watching the Packers game like a statue. Honestly, that’s all we have to say. See Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (season 1 episode 2) for more information on this FANTASTIC restaurant.

Second stop- National Civil Rights Museum in downtown Memphis. I have personally never seen 12 college students so engulfed in something. The honest truth of our country’s battle with racism and discrimination throughout history was so accurate and beautifully displayed in the museum. The exhibit was located where MLK Jr. was assassinated and the museum’s dedications to his life and work were a great reminder of why we take a day to remember such an influential figure. Also, the eight of us girls came across this awesome quote: “Well behaved women seldom make history.” â€"Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

Third Stop- Peabody Hotel. Ok, so we kinda missed seeing the ducks because we spent over 2.5 hours at the NCRM. It wasn’t really a big deal though because a kind local let us in on a little secret that you can go to the top of the hotel (where the ducks live) and get a mad view of Beale, The Mississippi River, and an oversized “Peabody Hotel” sign. Ya, we did take so many pictures.

Lastly- Beale Street dinner at BB King’s. Food was alright. Thomas honestly could not get over how economical his decision to split a rack of ribs with Creighton was. Kylee & Amanda just played with their food as usual. The jazz band started playing live music at 7pm and Haley TORE UP that floor and got the whole group to join her for “Play the Funky Music.” No one else in the restaurant really danced, and we liked it that way. Oh, and after leaving the restaurant the Beale Street Flippers jumped over five of us girls! (we have a video)

The day ended with an unsuccessful search for ice cream and games on games of things in a box. Laughs on Laughs on Laughs, at least 5 more replays of the song “One Touch,” and finally conversations about looking forward to our first day at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital  tomorrow- we are more ready than ever.

Thanks for reading!

Sunday- 11 January 2015

Today was our free day or what you could appropriately hashtag as #SoMuchFun.

First stop- Elvis Presley's Graceland. This was insanely cool. The mansion tour was groovy as heck and we were all pleasantly surprised at how much we loved reminiscing on the life of the King of Rock & Roll.  Some of us even left comments on our touring iPads at the end. Concerned, though, because Kaylie thought Elvis was hiding upstairs and made a pretty convincing argument about why, but we won't get too into that. Not to mention- Elvis was totally hot and totally a Mizzou Tiger Fan (see photo below).
