Memphis 1- Children & Health

Monday- 12 January 2015

The day was finally here. The day we have been counting down to at our weekly MAB meetings. Today was our first day of volunteering at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital!

To say that we were all excited is an understatement.

Although the morning consisted mostly of paperwork and orientation, we learned a lot about Le Bonheur, our roles as volunteers for the week, and took a fabulous tour which showcased some light up walls as well as the beautiful and creative artwork that covers almost every hallway. The hospital recently underwent a major expansion that was completed in 2010 so seeing the new facility was pretty cool.

After lunch we got to have our first real volunteer shift. Most everyone had different jobs that ranged from passing out beanie babies to cuddling a five month old. Although all of our shifts were different, we were all shocked and delighted at the fact that we had so much direct contact with these awesome kids and their families.

While some enjoyed the laughter of a preschooler playing with toys, others gave the parents a break by watching their kids for a few hours. No matter the job, there was no question that we all had our hearts captured by Le Bonheur today.

Seeing all the smiles and hearing all of the incredible stories from today just reaffirmed what Kylee & I already knew. We have ten incredibly caring and thoughtful individuals who continue to show us their hearts of service through the love they are showing these kids.

We are so excited to see what day two brings!

Thanks for listening!
