Charleston--Children Day 2
Today was the first day of our group working with the Wings program. We arrived ready to learn more about the program and start working in our Nests! A nest is a group of kids divided up by gender and age with a Wings leader. After we went through orientation, we were matched up with a wings leader and a particular nest. We introduced ourselves to the kids, even played a few rounds of the game "tips", a game where you throw a ball while in the air, and then we went right on our way to helping the kids with their homework! Some of us were challenged with remembering the basics of long division. Each of us had our own unique stories due to the fact that we all had different age groups, kindergarden to sixth grade. Next, we had a discussion about one of the values that Wings teaches their kids, agreement. They all went around saying what they thought was an agreement and examples of them. The nests all made a New Year's resolution and used this value of agreement to keep their resolution. We look forward to working with these spunky kids throughout the week! They even challenged us to learn the Dlow shuffle part 2 and perform it tomorrow during the community unity time. Needless to say, some of us may struggle with this a bit. But we have faith in ourselves and will continue to watch the Youtube video on replay. So keep in touch and we will let y'all how it went tomorrow, whether or not we kill it or tank completely. We will also continue to have a "CharlesTON" of fun. Talk to you soon followers!
