Greetings! We’re having a blast in beautiful southeastern Arizona. After a 20-hour, 1,300+ mile drive, we arrived at Ft. Bowie with the help of Google Maps (read: NOT Apple Maps). After settling in, we drove an hour and 15 minutes to the nearest town with a Wal-Mart and stocked up on essential food items, most of which were bananas or banana-flavored. Today, we had our first day of work at Chiricahua National Monument (you’re on your own trying to pronounce that). We hiked 5 miles of mountain terrain and retrieved two wildlife cameras that the National Park Service uses to track the species that chill in the park on the reg. Chiracahua is one of the most bio-diverse national parks in the world, so keeping track of the many species that visit the park is important to fostering a healthy environment for these animals, planets, etc. In 2011, a massive wildfire ravaged through a large part of the park, so it’s more important than ever for the park to understand how the wildlife is being affected. After working, we had a relaxing evening of stir-fry and card games. We have another long day of hiking and service to the earth tomorrow
