After fleeing Columbia gleefully at 8AM Saturday morning, ASB Na$hVega$ took the scenic (also, creepy) route on Highway 146 through Southern Illinois while listenin’ to some mix tapes we made for one another. Upon arriving in Nashville we settled into our home for the week, Eastwood Christian Church, to discover that we are going to have a massive sleepover for the week. And we’re excited about it.
Two participants paired up to make Breakfast for dinner that night, so we hit up the local grocery store and stocked up on all the necessities for the week. A group screening of best-film-of-the-year, Argo, capped our delicious meal. If you haven’t seen the film, do so, ASAP.
Sunday was our free day and a hike at Radnor Lake State Park was the perfect way to begin our jam-packed schedule. Despite the mist and fog, the lake was absolutely stunning and the wildlife (TURKEYS! TURTLES! AND A NAKED TREE!!) elicited much excitement. Most importantly, we kept each other entertained by taking as many pics as possible for the photo competition (ahem, prepare for defeat).
The highlight of our free day was dinner with the Nashville Alumni Association at The Row, a new restaurant that is a block away from Taylor Swift’s penthouse (we’re still uncertain whether or not she responded to our adopt-a-breaker, but we’re hoping she did). We are now dedicating the rest of our trip to scouting her neighborhood for a sighting/photo-op. Kidding….
The alumni were absolutely wonderful and we were so pleased to enjoy a delicious Southern meal with them. It was really insightful to hear the varying tracks they’d taken upon graduating and advice they had for post-grad life. They had many recommendations on spots to visit around Nashville and insight on some of the organizations we’ll be working with. All good things, of course!
After dinner we met up with ASB Ft. Campbell at Wild Horse Saloon. We danced the night away to live country music while avoiding stepping on each other’s toes—WE LOVE LINE DANCING. AND SOME OF OUR PARTICIPANTS ARE REALLY GOOD AT IT. Be sure to look our for a line dancin’ crew post-ASB, we’re gonna show you how it’s done!
Overall, we’ve fallen in love with Nashville and with one another. Despite the bad weather, we are pumped to see what the week (and potential snow) brings us.
Til then~ Peace, Love & Service
ASB Na$hVega$
