On Wednesday we worked even faster at the shelter. All of our dogs were walked and fed by lunchtime. It feels good to see how efficient we can be, and all the extra time we have we get to spend with the dogs, showering them with attention they wouldn't normally get or training them. In fact, some dogs are being trained for the "Good Citizenship Award" which is when they basically take a test to get certified as a friendly, well-trained dog. It's something that people adopting more aggressive breeds look for, so they know their dog won't have bad behavior. We're all starting to pick our favorites, which means Saturday is going to be so sad when we have to leave them.
After working at the shelter all day, we went home and changed to hit the town. We headed down to the French Quarter and after shopping for a few minutes, we hit up "Gumbo Shop," which is known for being a little tourist-y, but still good food. They had a beautiful courtyard with outdoor seating, and a great little back room for larger parties we got to sit in. It was delicious, but the best part of the meal was the service. Our waiter was hilarious and the manager kept giving us a hard time about Mizzou losing at basketball. We decided that if we do anything embarrassing, we should introduce ourselves as from kU.
After dinner we headed out on Bourbon Street for a while. If I had a dollar for every time someone tried to solicit us into a bar or sex club…it was kind of crazy. After lookin around for a while we ended up in a bar called Bourbon Pride and Parade. Turns out they were putting on a drag show! It was really really interesting to watch and be a part of, especially because most of the girls hadn't done anything like that before. We had to leave the show a bit early in order to get up for ARNO in the morning, but it was definitely worth the time we stayed J.
