Atlanta-Homelessness

It was another full day in Atlanta for our ASB trip to help the homeless and poor. It was our last day working with the ACSS, which was hard on some of our participants. The ACSS oversees two of the organizations we volunteered with, Cafe 458 and the CareerWorks office.

At the cafe, we spent time cooking and preparing meals for the "clients" that are part of the ACSS. Today's meal consisted of good food, great conversation with the clients, and an apple cobbler that was incredible. We were able to meet and eat with the clients during some downtime. This provided us with a great chance to interact and learn more about the lives of the people we were helping, and there was a lot to learn. Some of these people had a big impact on our participants, and i know that we had a large impact on them.

The other half of our group was out at the career works office helping with administrative and clerical duties. The impact there was less obvious but absolutely as important. That service helps train and match the clients with possible employment, and they boast an incredible success rate. They have a clothing store where the clients can go pick out donated clothes and more.

Afterwards, we went to our afternoon activities for the second day in a row. The kids seemed much more willing to open up to us and seemed very friendly. Some of us got to help with their kindergarten math homework (I've still got the skills, thanks Mrs. Bork). Others got to enjoy a sweet (albeit short) recess time, while a third was able to play duck duck goose and teach the kids a step routine.

That's really all to report for today. Tomorrow, CHICK FIL A!!!!!!!
