Forgoing the traditional practice of heading south for spring break, we headed north- 13 hours north. Ten kids, lots of coats and blankets made the more than 900 mile trek up here today in two Mizzou mini vans. We will be working at a therapeutic riding cam called Riding on Angels Wings in Felton, Minnesota.
The morning got off to an interesting start, when a dog decided to cross the highway while we were trying to merge on the highway from the entrance ramp. Luckily, everyone, including the dog, were fine. We passed the time by playing Catchphrase, Mad libs, making an origami zoo, and having sing alongs.
Driving through South Dakota took the better part of Saturday afternoon. While on the lookout for a "Welcome to North Dakota" sign, a Continental Divide sign was spotted. It was hypothesized that this meant half of North America was above this line and half below it. However, further research has indicated that this sign is a few states farther west, so we're not too sure about that one.
A casino was attached to every gas station we stopped at once we hit South Dakota and we noticed that the roads in Iowa had a red tinge to the pavement. We weren't sure we would ever get out of South Dakota. We saw hardly any houses, but lots and lots of signs for Wall Drug. It was 16 degrees when we pulled into North Dakota and there is lots of snow still on the ground. Finally, we saw the lights of Fargo, and made it our hotel and then got yummy half-priced apps at Applebees for dinner.
