Charleston - Children with Special Needs
Dear ASB Charleston Friends and Family,
We had an awesome day today! We started it out by having a nutritious breakfast and heading to our campsite. After seeing our campsite, we explored the beach! From the soft sand to the beautiful seashells to the fun pictures, we truly enjoyed our time at the beach. After the beautiful beach we headed to get some good southern cooking for lunch. We stopped and got some South Carolina BBQ, which included: pulled pork, collard greens, mac and cheese, corn, and cobblers.
After finishing up our awesome fried food, we headed out to see a lighthouse! It was cold and a little rainy but it was a beautiful sight. For one, this was their first lighthouse experience. Another fun filled drive of laughter and new inside jokes between each row in the van, brought us all back to the hotel to freshen up and catch up on ZZZZZZs.
Feeling fresh and rested, the group headed down to the bay to feast on the local favorite for seafood-- Crab House. After learning that you can eat all of a soft-shell crab, and most likely annoying the entire restaurant, we departed to old downtown Charleston with no particular plan ahead, but adventure in our hearts. We settled in on the idea of exploring the College of Charleston campus located in the heart of the downtown. We tried to blend in with the library, took plenty of truman pictures, and climbed an assortment of things we most likely shouldn't have been on. We even "rode the cougar" we found between the dorms, each of us grabbing a picture we felt embodied our nature, and then our group stumbled upon a local who was the perfect southern gentleman. After a barrage of questions and offering him some of our women in hopes he had old money and a house on the bay, we headed back inland.
Stopping by a local ice cream and grabbing a sugar high, we all headed back to our digs at the Comfort Suites, taking in all the luxuries that will won't be privileged with the rest of the week as we camp. Charleston has treated us quite nicely these past days and we're excited for the work ahead of us this week, as we work with people with special needs. Woop!
May the sweet tea flow forever,
ASB-Charleston.
Liz, Caleb, Kyle, Zach, Karen, Kerry, Emily, Theresa, Morgan, Hannah, Courtney, and Ayelen.
