We have been busy here in Savannah and want to catch everyone up on what we have been doing since arriving here late
Saturday afternoon.
Sunday 3/27 -
Sunday was a a very interesting day for us in Savannah because we got to experience Easter in a culture that was very different than what most of us were used to. A few of us got up early and went to a Sunrise Service on the Savannah River (See Picture Below), while a few others found an Easter Mass that best suited their beliefs. After a quick breakfast downtown, we decided we better explore Savannah...even if it was pouring down rain! We saw tons of history, some incredible trees, and even the spot where they filmed Forrest Gump say "Life's like a box of Chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get next". It was a great day and awesome to experience some rich Savannian culture.
Monday 3/28 -
Monday was our day off, and even though we hadn't gotten to start working yet we decided to head to Hilton Head Island for a day on the beach! The weather we had was absolutely perfect and we were even able to get into the water. The sand in Hilton Head was white and soft and perfect for Sand Volleyball! We had a couple of close matches that left all of us thinking we should try out for the Olympic Volleyball Team....maybe in Summer games 2020!
After the beach we headed to a little part of Hilton Head called Harbor Town. In Harbor town we saw lots of cool things including a lighthouse, a few yachts, and a couple of alligators!
We ended up our day in Hilton Head with a quick bite at the Salty Dog Cafe where most of us got an infamous Salty Dog Cafe T-Shirt! It was an eventful day and left us excited to start our service on Tuesday.
Wednesday 3/30 -
Wednesday was our second day at the Habitat site and we had an incredibly productive day. We finished painting the inside of the house, put up tons of siding and some of us learned how to stucco. We all learned a lot and are getting the hang of things on the work site. It is really cool for us to see the difference we have made in just two days on the job site.
After work we made a quick trip to a local beach to see that Paramount Pictures was filming a Baywatch Movie with The Rock and Zac Efron. We even saw a scene of The Rock saving a little kid out of the water! It was an awesome day and we are looking forward to the rest of the week.
