Charleston - Health

Today students were able to participate in their second volunteer rotation in the various departments at the VA Hospital. Students in the Emergency Department, Medical and Surgical ICU, and Inpatient Departments had the opportunity to interact with many patients from various backgrounds. Almost every student commented on how amazing the stories of both the veterans and the staff who worked at the VA. Not only were the staff extremely welcoming to our entire group, but they took the time to discuss multiple medical and healthcare related issues. This allowed students to get a firsthand perspective of issues in the medical field. After we finished our service the whole group packed up and headed to the famous Angel Oak Tree on the coast of Charleston where we had a "photoshoot" (see photos attached for a good laugh). Exhausted from the days events, our participants took a relaxing 30-minute nap before rushing off to dinner at St. Timothy's Anglican Catholic Church. There we were served some traditional Charleston comfort food dishes like turkey and gravy, biscuits, mac and cheese, and chocolate cake (we'll let you know when we can finally button our pants again).
