Savannah 1 - Habitat for Humanity (4)

We started out the day very slow and it was hard to wake up. The strenuous labor we’ve been putting into the Habitat Restore has begun to take it’s toll along with our lack of sleep. But despite this hardship, our day developed into a sun-filled and wonderful day.

Today at the new location of the Habitat Restore we were challenged with a repetitive and labor-intensive task. We assembled the stocking shelves for the supplies that will provide income to build future houses for Habitat in Savannah. Starting with the bases, then putting in the grid boards, and then finally snapping in the shelves, we all definitely have a newfound appreciation for assembling stocking shelves in all stores.

A challenge that we faced today was dealing with the frustration of pieces not fitting together and getting everything aligned just perfectly. Some irritation arose when we realized that we messed up on some of the shelving and had to redo some of our mistakes. Overall, we ended the workday with seven new shelving units that left us all feeling amped up about all the work we have been putting into the new Restore. We left the store in high spirits as the beautiful Savannah sun shined down on our beaming faces for the first time.

We had some chill time at the church and played group bonding games before heading out for a dinner provided by Habitat with Mr. Charles. He’s so gracious and has provided us lunch everyday and always greets us with a smile. We went to Stoner’s Pizza and indulged in lasagna, salad, and delicious garlic butter breadsticks. We then trotted across the street to Sweet Potatoes which is a local Savannah diner with the world’s best banana pudding. Approved!

After we were too full to eat anymore, we drove to downtown Savannah and walked around for about an hour to enjoy the sights and stores. Our amazing site leaders then surprised us with a ghost tour through the downtown district. The tour gave us a good historical background of Savannah while providing us with chilling stories about ghosts and spirits.

After a long and eventful day, boys and girls decided to split up in the two cars to drive back to the church. As the girls pulled up in Big Red, they were bombarded by the boys who were trying to get into the church. After several unmentionable events… the guys bolted into the church towards the bathrooms and late night snacks. Overall it was a great day with a lot of fun, laughter, jokes and pranks proving that you only tease the people you truly love.
