Savannah 1 - Habitat for Humanity (2)

Our second day of serving is now over, and we cannot be more excited about how our week is going. Today, we started serving at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. Habitat is relocating the restore to a new location on the other side of town, and we got to work with them breaking down and reorganizing at the old location. It was incredible to see the passion of the people who work for Habitat and get to know their hearts. They genuinely want the best for others and will do anything for that cause. It was also great to meet another student living in Savannah and have fun while striving towards a common goal.
In the afternoon, we went to the new location and collaborated with the Habitat staff to unload furniture and supplies. We found ourselves constantly laughing and having a blast while lifting (or attempting to lift) the heavy furniture. We managed to not get injured, except for Myles who hurt his leg before the week began. Overall, the experience of serving alongside the Habitat workers was encouraging, and we can’t wait to continue working with them for the rest of the week.
After serving, we took a trip to Tybee Island and endured the wind and rain to see the Atlantic. The weather definitely didn’t stop us from having the time of our lives and even diving in the freezing water fully clothed. Two of the members on our trip saw the ocean for the first time, and we got to see the excitment on their faces. We finished off the night by cooking a baked potatoe bar and baking cookies. Today was a great day in Savannah!
