New York 1 - Disaster Relief (5)

Day 4: 3/25/15

Today both of our groups were combined into our normal group of 12, while we removed plaster from the walls of a basement on a house that one of the groups had previously been working on this week. During the day, a couple people went to a back room and started tearing out wood planks and ended up finishing all of it. Lots of progress was made today because the whole clan was together. We started walls in the first room closest to the entrance that had not yet been started on, which made the morale stay high all day. We worked hard while singing along to the boom box we had blaring. We ate lunch on the ground of the front entrance of the building and chatted with the homeowner, Mr. Blum.

In the middle of the day, we received a pleasant surprise! Beverly, a woman from the congregation who we ate dinner with on Monday night, called us and offered us free tickets to a Broadway show for tonight. After the whole group talked it out, we decided we had to take this amazing opportunity and sacrifice a night of relaxing to brace the subway and the madness of the crowds in Manhattan. We got off working around 4:00pm and showered and snacked quickly to get to the show in plenty of time. We were in awe of the Times Square lights at night and the Broadway District. We all really enjoyed the show and were very grateful for our friend Beverly’s consideration and generosity.

On the subway ride back to our house after the show, we witnessed awesome dance moves mixed with parkour moves in the middle of the aisle on the train. It made the ride home pass by quickly. After a long day, we all came home and ate a quick snack and got ready to crash.
