JackAttack takes on Service Day One!

March 22, 2015

It all began with a sunrise and the glorious beaches of Jacksonville, Florida. The women of Jacksonville awoke at sunrise to have a brisk morning jog along the beautiful coast, while the men of Jacksonville lay sound asleep peacefully, with a freight train snore every once in a while just to lighten the mood. Once all were awake, there was the wonderful sound of bodies being showered, hair being dried and the piano being played by the musical prodigy Nicholas Yeisley. The look of awe overcame all the faces of the group when they caught sight of the various kinds of warm and delicious muffins prepared by the charming patrons of the St. Marks Episcopal Church. As a result, all bellies were filled to the gills with nourishment and energy to accomplish Service Day One!

The day began with a fascinating trip to the local farmers market. The group ventured down various isles, encountering the amazing species of fruits and vegetables like NEVER before. They came across the species of a red delicious fruit with black seeds and a green stem, it''s given the name of, The Strawberry. Next, a round and tangy fruit reeled them in like a fisherman and a big ol' catfish , the name chosen for this tasty species is, The Orange. There were many more fascinating discoveries throughout the fruits and veggies safari guide, but I would rather not make you drool on your keyboard while reading this fantastical journey, so I will continue on with the day.
The group got dressed in their Sundays best and attended the St. Marks Episcopal Church Service. The bells rang, hymns were sung, and the Holy Spirit filled the room as the youth were welcomed with open arms. Following the church service you could hear the sound of stomachs growling and see the hunger in the eyes of the fearless participants, it was time to feast on this fine Sunday afternoon. Members got out the almighty delicious 100% whole wheat bread, quality provolone cheese and the unending variety of turkey, chicken or ham to make a masterpiece of a sandwich. Once all were seated to chow down, all was quiet with the exception of the all time favorite chip chomping noise. At the last crunch, it was time to head to service site #1!

JackAttack arrived at Clarke School for Hearing and Speech at the efficient time of 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon, even with the fairly frequent occurrence of taking the wrong exits and turns thanks to the speedy, SAFE, drivers. Participants showed signs of alertness and readiness to serve in any way necessary at the time of arrival, or the alertness could've been triggered once the words "fire ants" were mentioned, but who's really keeping track... The groups task of the day was to create a safer playground environment for the children of Clarke School to run, jump and play in by mulching the entire area. Participants began by gathering rakes, shovels, buckets and even a deformed wagon to help accomplish the job. Members shoveled the mulch into buckets of all different shapes and sizes, and participants really got the full experience when their hair, shirts and pants were mistaken as buckets. The mulch was dispersed all throughout the playground to create a safer active environment for the kids. JackAttack was predicted to accomplish the task in six hours, but participants attacked that goal and were done in record time. This MAB group is by far one of the most physically fit groups built with amazing endurance like no other, they are unstoppable and no other group can compare, but I will continue onto the rest of the day because there will be many more opportunities to brag about their amazingness throughout the week.

Following Jacksonville's service event, it was time to hit up the coast and make a splash in the ocean! Participants could hear the sound of the waves from their vehicles and immediately acted as typical tourists from the midwest and did the full on sprint into the ocean. You can tell from the pictures that the waves did not calm this group of beach babes, but rather did the opposite and hyped them up to take the typical MAB beach jumping picture (FYI, yes Jacksonville did it best). As you can tell, it was a little chilly in the afternoon and after a long day of service they came to the conclusion it was time to grab some grub! A teal seafood restaurant caught Matt's eye on the way to the beach (SIDE NOTE, ladies he's single so if you're teal and seafood you will catch his eye), to get back on track they ventured the almost two mile walk to the seafood restaurant and ended up at waffle house. With every delicious bite the members increased their chances at diabetes and clogged arteries, but they are still the most attractive MAB trip so they have no need to worry. Following dinner JackAttack ventured back to the church's youth center and showered with only three participants having to take cold showers. #BeatThat

Much Love,
JackAttack- #1 MAB Trip
