Alamosa - Habitat (1)

Day 1- The Climb… this trip has been officially dedicated to Hannah Montana according to Joe. More references coming soon but no promises

Hey readers of this award winning blog, it's Joe and Sara coming to you live from the bottom bunk of the good ole' jolly roger (aka our bedroom in the Presbyterian Church).  12 must be our magic number… 12 great humans, squished into a 12-passenger van for a 12-hour drive to Alamosa, Colorado. It all began with a quick stop at Harold's Donuts. After a tasty treat, the grand adventure began.  It didn't take long for everyone to fall asleep, so I promptly took blackmail pictures and posted them to our twitter account.  At around ten, everyone started waking up and with help of our ultimate playlist, the dancing and singing began (except A-a-Ron who wasn't really digging it). The singing and dancing was contagious; the passing cars couldn't help to join in the celebration.

Lunch rolled around and the energy levels hit maximum volume and the back seat was getting a little wild… got the snap chats to prove it. Alysa then convinced all the girls to really expand their hair horizons with some crazy up-do's the boys were jealous obviously that they couldn't partake in the hat-hairstyle. We decided that the few veggies and fruits we ate could balance out all the brownies and donuts but not really sure if that's holding true or not. The drive through Kansas was so exciting! (NOT). Actually Kansas and the first half of Colorado are really similar lots of cows, fields, and ghost towns. Speaking of ghost towns, we successfully drove around Sugar City for twenty minutes searching for a bathroom, but the post office was closed so no luck there… we think the whole town (total of 20 people tops) was at a front yard BBQ.
Following this adventure, we made our way to civilization. We found a quaint little gas station, which had very chewy beef jerky. It was actually tasty, but it was very chewy. In the process of attempting to eat this beef jerky, we realized that we were running out of daylight and time. We found our way back to the highway and we made our way though Colorado. It was a fantastic ride that was coordinated by Shannon who proved to drive in the most challenging conditions known to man. As the sun set over the beautiful Rocky Mountain backdrop, the drive became extremely bright. Our future was so bright at this point, that we needed shades. And for the sun to set so we could see the road and the beautiful mountain range. Once the sun finally set, the road was illuminated by some different lights, the ones that are blue and red. Oh yeah we officially got pulled over our first day on the trip (Way to go Shannon!) The officer claimed we were weaving, but we think it was unjust profiling due to our tiger tail and car window paint… he must have been a KU fan. Luckily he just let us drive on and we soon arrived in ALAMOSA WOOP WOOP.
A quick dinner and some meds for poor Gerard everyone is tucked in bed ready to start this crazy, fun, exciting week of service! We will keep you posted on any traffic stops in the future, I mean Joe isn't really sure what a red light even is. Looking forward to tomorrow #HouseGoinUp(on a sprang break)

            Sincerely your Site Leaders,

                         Sara and Joe
