Charleston-- Children Day 3

Day 2 of Service; Day 3 of MAB: Chaaaarston!!

Hey Bloggers! Today was the day of all days. The moment where we MABers were tested. The moment where the pressure was on. The moment where we made history. The moment where we earned respect for all the other MABers to ever volunteer at Wings.

Today was the day, we dominated our dance battle challenge known as the "Dlow Shuffle Part 2". If you read our previous blog post (which I know you all did) then you know we were challenged yesterday by the Wings Staff to preform the Dlow Shuffle Part 2. We are here to tell you that not only did we destroy, but we OWNED the DLow Shuffle Part 2. After one night of learning and perfecting this dance, we MABers showed up to Wings and turnt up on a Tuesday. After about a minute and a half of pouring our hearts out on the stage, the kids challenged us to a battle. Wings kids stepped up and battled us at their own dance. Although who won is up to discretion, we believe we held our own up there. Even Wings kids had to give us respect for our dance moves with quotes such as, "You all were alright. We are professionals. You are rookies." The staff said that they challenge every group of volunteers to the Dlow Shuffle and we by far are the best group they have ever seen.

Learning a dance in less than 24 hours? We'll take the rookie title with pride. Stay tuned for videos!

After we all caught our breathe and wiped the sweat off our forehead we headed to our Academic Hour. A lot of us noticed how much the kids enjoyed our dancing and how much more open they were to us. Many kids made connections and chatted with us more than the previous day. Following Academic Hour was Wings first Choice Time of the semester. This is a time where students have a chance to participate in different extracurricular activities such as hip hop dancing, architect with legos, yoga, lacrosse, cooking, art, get fit, theatre, etc. It was great to see the kids become excited about their activity and light up with excitement.

After leaving today, during our reflections we all realized how quickly we became attached to these children. Our days with them are quickly becoming to an end, and we wish we didn't have to part. The daily conversations and inquisitive minds of these children really did surprise us. We look forward to what tomorrow will bring us!

Till next time bloggers!
