Fulton - Environment

Today our group traveled to Kingdom Projects Incorporated to help them with a variety of projects. Kingdom Projects is a recycling center that employs members of the Fulton community who have disabilities. They are a company doing great things for people by providing them with a means of employment as well as training for the real-world workplace environment. As a group we were able to accomplish tasks in a day that we were told would have taken much longer for the Kingdom Projects employees to complete.

One group helped overhaul the on site re-sale store. Essentially we were given free reign to paint and reorganize the whole store.  It was quite the project. Needless to say, we found many treasures. We painted all four of the walls while wearing wildly radical pants. While some of us painted, others sorted the clothes, consolidated the inventory, and generally gave the space a sense of polish and purpose.

Some of us were then assigned to organize and sort through items that KPI could either resell or recycle. This involved sorting through old ink cartridges, clothing, and miscellaneous items. It meant the world to us every time the Board of Director members told us that the work we were accomplishing today was equivalent to a week worth of work regularly. It was incredibly inspiring to know we made a great impact on the business side and the personal side of Kingdom Projects.

The accomplishments we made today were so numerous that they will not be forgotten. However, today is not just about the accomplishments, it is also about the new people we met and the relationships we built along the way. It is, however, important to understand that this organization is not in need of our help, but is openly appreciative of those willing to volunteer their time and service. The opportunity to serve in these places close to home is incredible because they are often overlooked. They can benefit from the help just as much, if not more than the bigger cities. Fulton may not be a desired tourist destination, but service is not about the sites and souvenirs, it is about changing the world one Missouri county at a time.

Tyler, Luci, and Meaghan
