Tuscaloosa, AL - Habitat for Humanity (Post 4)

Today was our second to last day of service! It's so sad to think our time here is almost up, but also so rewarding to know all the work we are doing is helping several families. It was a little chilly this morning so we were all bundled up and one of the full-time volunteers bought us Krispy Kreme doughnuts, yum! All the people we have met here are all so big hearted and wonderful people to work with.

To start the day, myself (Hannah), Jessica, Shelby, Lauren, and Jamie put up the last bit of drywall on one of the sheds. It was such a great feeling seeing all our hard work come together to form something a family will be using for the next thirty years! Jessica and Shelby were SO amazing today; they were brave and climbed on the top of the shed to put the roof up. It is one pretty looking roof! Madeline and Kenton put a coat of paint over their window boxes and trim they have been working on all week. After we finished the shed we all moved inside to start painting the house. Burning Sand is the color of paint, and we all decided it was a pretty accurate description of the paint color. All the girls and Kenton went to town on the paint and got the whole house painted today.  Like Jamie said in our reflection tonight, "These are the walls this family will be looking at for the next thirty years." It was great to put it in that perspective and it really sunk in to me that the work we are doing now will be here for these families for the next several years.

Jon, Kyle, and Cody worked on the two sheds all day, you can tell, all their necks are sunburnt from working in the sun. They waterproofed all the sheds (I'm not sure what that all entails, but it looked pretty difficult from watching them do it). That took them pretty much all day, and the sheds are looking so great! Props to all everyone who has been working so hard on them, they are going to make these families very happy for the next thirty years.

We had a really touching reflection tonight; we all got to know each other on a deeper lever, and really became closer as a group. As I lay here about to go to bed, thinking about my trip so far I can't being to explain how blessed I am to have been given the opportunity to get to know each and every one of these remarkable people. They have truly inspired me, and changed me for the better, and I know our friendships will continue to grow after this week is over. Tomorrow is our last day of service and I can't wait to make the most of it!
