Tuscaloosa, AL - Habitat for Humanity (Post 1)

We drove all day yesterday and arrived last night with just enough time to go to the store and unpack, settle in, and get some rest before our big day on Sunday.

Today was our first day of service. We are here for Habitat for Humanity in Tuscaloosa, however, they do not operate on Sundays, so we went to the NW Alabama chapter instead. Luckily, they needed help loading insulation into a large trailer from Tuscaloosa so we helped here first in the morning and then drove up to help unload it at their site. That's when we meet another MAB group! The SEC compact trip is in NW AL and they helped us unload the insulation, then we went to another place to load foam board and bring it back.

Next, we separated from the other group to go eat lunch at Trinity Camp (where the other group is staying) and met with Brother Ashley and he had the best lunch we could possible imagined prepared. After helping ourselves to chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, biscuits (this is the south y'all) and fruit, we got to work! The camp needed a little TLC before the summer camps start rolling in so we painted doors, swept up, cleaned bathrooms (even the ones the other MIZs are using…you're welcome), vacuumed, washed windows, the whole nine yard. We all worked together AMAZINGLY and had a great time doing it.

We had a visit from Teresa (Mama T) and her family. She is in charge of the NW AL chapter and for the past few years Mizzou has been part of her Alabamily. …being part of her family is a blessing. She is the best (BEST) (BEST!!!!) person you will ever meet. (yes, that is a period). She inspired us and lifted us to new heights (even Kenton!). Love her. Thanks, Teresa!

Between places (we were working in a few different buildings) we played with goats (the lawn mowers of the camp) and the most chillaxin dog ever…named Maggie. She just had puppies (no, we didn't get to see them) and was ready for a little love…so we complied. On our way home we stopped at a playground to have fun (it was a great playground).
Overall, we learned that we work really well together and we are so happy we are all here. Also, Kenton and Jamie are mom and dad (strict parents, let me tell you) and in this all Greek trip all the participants are their littles. Yes, we are starting to become a family. Can't wait to see what the next few days have in store! Talk to you later!
