Taos, NM - Habitat for Humanity (Post 7)

We woke up this morning and could hardly believe it was our last full day in Taos. We unfortunately didn't wake up to Frozen again, but fear not, because the soothing voice of mom woke us up at 8:15am. Unfortunately, the time change must have finally started to hit us because we were running a little late this morning. After struggle bussin' it to the site, we jumped out of the cars eager to get to twerkin' (just kidding, no twerking, just working).

To start of, a group of us went and worked on the shed, nailing some plywood onto the wooden framing. Another group became saw masters. Seriously, we were cutting things so fast that Mark couldn't even keep up with us. Another group got to learn how to make adobe bricks, while another group finished laying them. We also took about five million group photos, and you should definitely check out the Facebook.

Around lunchtime, we had some very special guests come by the site. We were joined by Cynthia, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Taos, and Michelle, the administrative assistant, and of course, our second mom for the week, Susan. They were surprised by the progress that we had been able to make this week, but little did they know we had another surprise coming. Before we started our journey, a major component of our planning was fundraising. Being one of the farthest MAB trips, we had one of the largest budgets. At first, we were worried that we wouldn't even be able to meet our goal, but we soon found out that we exceeded it. So today, we were to happy to announce that we will be donating $3,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Taos to help them continue to serve the amazing people of Taos.

After lunch, the work continued. Cara, Dani, and Nicole discovered that they never want to see another hammer or nail again, while Michaela, Sara, Kelly, and Morgan found their true calling as Broom Whisperers. When 4 o'clock rolled around, it was time to say our goodbyes. We are so grateful to Mark for being so patient with us this week and walking us step by step through every process (seriously, who knew that tying a string was so hard). We are also so grateful to Susan for being such a fantastic host. Seriously, she was always there when we needed her, including when we can't find a place that is literally ten miles away from us. All in all, we were able to make our mark in Taos and help make a future for Adrianna and her family.

After our work day finished, we (against our better judgement) followed one of Mark's "trusty" wooden maps. This time, however, it didn't lead us to Area 51, but instead a beautiful, antartical ice cave. We kinda had to ice skate up the mountain, and Morgan almost did the splits in the process, but it was well worth it. It reminded us of just how lucky we are to have been surrounded by nature for the past week.

Tonight, we decided to "turn up" by hitting a local hotspot for some New Mexican grub. We even met a local celebrity in the process who was soliciting our votes for the Taos Sheriff #Medina2014. The food was delicious, and our sinuses are definitely wide open after the "mild" New Mexican cooking. Seriously though, those sopapillas we delish. But Morgan might have a different view, considering she was dumping salt in her mouth the entire night. Seriously, like who does that? Anyways, we do ask for your thoughts tonight, considering the last time we had Mexican food, we had quite a "fruitful" evening. #Saradidit.

Now here we are, coming full circle, about to leave Taos tomorrow. It's been quite an experience that none of us will ever forget. There was laughter, there were tears, there was twerking, and there was gas, there was also pooping (everyone does it), but more importantly, there were relationships formed and memories made that we will never forget.

Thanks fr th Mmrs, (suga' we're goin' down swingin')
