Guin, AL SEC Compact - Habitat for Humanity (Post 4)

Hey everyone,

Today was quite an interesting day. Temperatures began in the low thirties and were windy, so we started today by working on our birdhouses that will be donated for a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser. Once temperatures warmed up, we headed out to the work site to begin our wonderful day of service. Outside of the wind and cold, there was another special event happening that day. Emily’s birthday was today —Happy birthday Emily! The birthday girl was able to successfully build doors for this new house, help raise walls and more. It was an a great day. The entire group joined together to ensure that the building was ready for insulation to be added. In order to accomplish this, we basically expanded all of the work that we did in the previous days. Blue boards were added, doors were created, and everyone was able to use the techniques and skills from the prior day. Whether it was Blake on the circular saw or Dalton raising the walls, everyone gave 110 percent and made sure that this new office would be one that could be enjoyed and cherished for years to come. After leaving the worksite, we prepared for a special dinner at Smell the Aroma  cafĂ©. Kayron Silas made a delicious southern dinner. The team delighted as they ate Kayron’s special homemade pork steaks, baked chicken, baby potatoes, black eyed peas, and so much more. Everything was fantastic. We love this small city and the people that inhabit it. At the end of the day, Emily said that this was an amazing birthday and she wouldn’t want to spend it any other way. The people of Guin and Twin have made us feel right at home. We can’t wait to see what all the upcoming days hold for us.

Until then, follow us on Twitter @MAB_SEC for live updates and pictures of everyone.
