Our first two days of ASB have been a whirlwind, but in the best way possible. Nawlins is 11.5 hours from Columbia, and with stops, our trip started at 6 a.m. and ended at 9 p.m.

Gertrude and Bertha, our trusty vehicles.
Southwest Missouri and Arkansas are pretty boring. In Mississippi, things started to get interesting. Apparently, leggings as pants are not appropriate attire in Mississippi, because some guy at a Jackson gas station thought we were part of a dance troupe. We reenacted the moment for your enjoyment: https://vine.co/v/MMgVYuHgtDz
After a terrible late-night trek to basically every McDonalds in the New Orleans metro area, we called it a night.
Sunday was our free day, so we spent the morning exploring the city.
We learned that Tray has no clue how to get down from a bunk bed. He was trapped for 30 minutes. #tragic
After saving Tray and getting from the ever-classy Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church to the French Quarter, our day started at Cafe du Monde, where coffee and beignets remedied all of our hangriness. We spent the rest of the morning walking around the city. We discovered that Hannah has a secret love of voodoo and that Kalynn and Shelby are the sassiest.

In addition to being sassy, Shelby also knows how to make photos awkward. After a few hours of running around the city, we called it a day and returned to Grace to nap. We also finally made it to Walmart, which was a necessary but kind of terrible trip.
Our first family dinner of pasta was a success (shout out to Claire, the trip mom and Patrick, the trip grandma), but we were finalizing our plans for Taco Tuesday when we realized that tomorrow, in fact, was Monday. Oops.
We're a homelessness/poverty trip, so being confronted with so many panhandlers around New Orleans really made us think. We'll be at our site tomorrow for our first day of service. Here's to a great week.
