Pittsboro, NC - Animals (Post 3)

An Ode to Our Favorite Driver: Craig

We kicked off our third day of service bright and early again this Tuesday morning. At Carolina Tiger Rescue, we fought some pretty nasty, thick vines and tall trees to clear out a large area within the forest on our site. The Work would have been more enjoyable if it had not been for the light and continuous rain our that soaked us through our clothes and made our hands cramp up from the cold. Nevertheless, the PittsBROS kept a positive attitude ad sang their way through classic Disney movie songs and the playlist from Pitch Perfect to keep up volunteering morale.

Throughout our experience so far we have come to learn that it's the little moments that our service the most memorable. Today, a small groups of the PittsBROS went back to the main building to warm up for a bit an afterwards we walked back to our working site at Carolina Tiger Rescue with our volunteering supervisor Dan. Dan is an older man that has worked as a plumber for the majority of his life. He told us that he amde a significant amount money working as a plumber and was relatively happy doing it. However, one weekend he decided to vulunteer as Carolina Tiger Rescue and had an amazng time serving there. So when the opportunity to work at Carolina Tiger Rescue full time came his way, he did not hesitate to take the job.

The most amazing thing about Dan is that he does not make any money working at Carolina Tiger Rescue. He barely gets anything at all besides the bare necessities to survive. As we were walking with him, we stopped to see all of the tigers in their enclosures. Dan told us his story and hared some of the tiger's stories. you could really hear his passion for the animals and his work within his voice. Dan loves working at Carolina Tiger Rescue; Dan loves interacting with the animals there.

Mizzou Alternative Breaks is an opportunity for Univeristy of Missouri student to share in the same passion and experience that Dan has had while volunteering. We are a movement created by people like Dan. It has been so humbling thus far to be able to work with someone so closely related to our goal to change the world one step at a time. POCO A POCO FOR THE TIGERS!
