New Orleans Day 4

At tonight's reflection, we discovered that Tray is really bad at delivering compliments.

"Claire, sometimes I just want to kick you," is really never an appropriate way to start a  co site leader shout out. But we try to love him anyway.

Anyway, we returned to Love in Action Outreach for the second-to-last time and spent the day working the pantry, administration, senior box distribution and flea market. It was business as usual today, and it's really nice to finally feel like we have a really firm knowledge of the place. We can direct confused customers to proper locations and navigate the never-ending piles of paperwork.

We said goodbye to the amazing Mr. D today. Our last service day is tomorrow, but he has the day off. He's such a silent force at Love in Action Outreach. You can normally find him overseeing the meat freezers and ice cream, but he has institutional knowledge about just about everything. We ended up leaving the pantry today almost an hour late (armed with cheesecake they insisted we take — refusing food from a Southerner is rude, after all) because we spent so long talking to Mr. D and the rest of the team.

Stories are great. People are great. Gumbo is great. Even when we wait an hour for it.

Saying goodbye tomorrow almost doesn't seem real.

  1. This is Tray's dad. I am very proud of this group because of the work you have done. There is no better way to learn about the effects of poverty and economic depression than to see it first hand. Remember your lessons. Have a safe trip back to Mizzou Go Tigers
