Meridian, MS - Habitat for Humanity (Post 2)

Today was our first day of service! We began the day with a history lesson about the foundation of Habitat for Humanity and Meridian’s affiliate from our volunteer coordinator, Fonda. After learning all about Habitat, we split the group in half and headed out to the volunteer sites to finish two “Brush with Kindness” projects. For this program, Habitat volunteers help fix up existing homes and complete any necessary repairs. The first group laid flooring in the kitchen, built a railing, and restored the bathroom sink. The second group painted a front porch, back porch, and a bench swing. Both groups enjoyed getting to know the site coordinators and the residents of the homes. After finishing up these projects, we headed to a local park and played an intense game of touch football. It was a close game, but Bryndon scored the winning touchdown for Team Dad, beating Team Mom by one touchdown. Once the game was over, we returned to our volunteer housing for dinner. Casey prepared a delicious dinner of chicken parmesan that tasted even better than the Olive Garden that was donated to us for lunch.

We are very excited to start the new construction project tomorrow and we are looking forward to being able to work together on the same site!
