Memphis, TN 1 - Children's Health (Post 1)

Sunday was our first official day in Memphis. We spent the day driving around Memphis, and visiting famous sites. We visited Elvis's home (we think), we walked down the famous Beale Street, and also went on a haunted ghost tour through downtown Memphis. After this tour we learned that our place of stay is haunted (not really) (thank God).

Although we were exhausted from an eventful day in Memphis, we still managed to wait in line at a Memphis BBQ restaurant (the struggle) who couldn't even tell us what was in their beans (but it was worth it).

Monday, we started our first day of service. We began our day at Hope House, which is a daycare for children affected by HIV/AIDS. We played with the children and helped Hope House with outside chores, by raking leaves and organizing their sheds. After our time there, we headed over to grab some burgers (delish) at Huey's, which is another Memphis staple. After getting lost multiple times, we finally made it to Grizzlies House, which is a place for families to stay while their children are being treated at St. Jude's Children's Hospital. While we were there, we served them dinner and played with the children and the parents.

It was a wonderful experience and we're excited to go back on Wednesday.

Throughout these two days, our group has become very close due to our frequent snapchats, a Capella breakouts, penny surfing, Frozen singoffs, volleyball shenanigans, and yoga sessions. Also, we have been led fearlessly by our fearless leaders. We are Memphibians now and forever. #oneMemphibian #DanRan #FearlessLeaders #Blessing #Blessed #IWillJustDoThis

From your loving Memphibians,
Allie Humes and Molly Bruening
