Hiawassee, GA - Environment (Post 7)

Dear Grandma,

Here's a few updates on my trip! On Wednesday, we worked on the farm in the morning. We ran out of the mulch they gave us, so they had to go back to town to get more (talk about doing WORK)! In the afternoon, Dr. Suan came to educate us about eating and sustainability. We watched a video called "Eating" and she gave us copies of the DVD to share with our friends. She's super passionate about nutrition and let us try her broccoli sprout salad with tahini (yummm).

After lunch and chatting with her for nearly two hours, everyone set off on a hike to the APPALACHIAN Trail. It was SO breathtaking. It was difficult to get to the top, but it was worth it. Adventures like this remind me why we are here today- to help preserve the land and nature. We met six or seven true hikers, some of which were going the entire trail (2,181 miles!!).

For dinner, we invited Guy (another staff member) over for dinner, and he's super awesome! We shared stories and made s'mores, and the embers of the fire sparked up and blended in with the night sky.

Today we finished up the last few rows of the farm, and it is AWESOME to finally be done! The guys split wood, and they had a manliest-man contest. Emmett won. Afterwards, we fed the animals, and I played with baby goats. I also caught a chicken, and Nicole called me the animal whisperer. After we fed the animals, we went hiking on a trail called "Bear's Den" and literally saw a Bear's Den. Guy showed us around the trail, and we found really cool obstacle courses along the way.

We came back and had a FEAST brought to us by Emmett, Evan, Alex, Joe, Sianna, and others. They made cheeseburgers, potatoes, stuffing, green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, alfredo, and I think they're making a cake tonight! I'm going to bake brownies for the road tomorrow (they call me the brownie queen, aka QUEEN B).

Tonight, we're having another bonfire, and Guy just got here to hang out again. He's HILARIOUS. Seriously, the volunteer workers are some of the coolest and most interesting people I've ever met, and I can't wait to tell you about them when I see you.

Love you, Grandma,

Julia and MABuddies
