@Twitrlessdogger I put on my own rendition of Marc Brown’s famous play Buster Spaces Out for the children. It was a beautiful performance that taught the kids about teamwork, using people’s strengths, and never giving up along with space. After all this I asked the kids who had the best puppet show. They chose Mr. Nick. Mr. Nick never put on a puppet show. But it’s not like I’m bitter or anything…
Mr. Nick here. Today as @Twitrlessdogger tried to put on a play for our group I secretly put on another play during his performance. My play, unlike his, was not riddled with tasteless jokes and classless actors. It stared Jonathan, the hand puppet that has a striking resemblance to Truman the Tiger. Needless to say, it was a flawless skit with an even better response.
For Megs, today was the best day I’ve had all week. I made space helmets with all of the kids, which was like the best thing in the whole entire wide world. Seeing those adorable little kiddos use their creativity was amazing. However, one of the best parts of the day for me was when one of the kids yelled, “I WANNA HAVE A SPACE HELMET LIKE MISS MEGAN’S!!” and he proceeded to stare at my helmet to figure out how to make it. Definitely one of the highlights of my week and it was a wonderful way to end this amazing and unforgettable trip.
Today was the day it all came to an end… we had our highs and our lows… we cried and we laughed… yet it could not last. It’s Maddison here! While today was sad I did finally get my hug from Leah and Zoe. So many cute pictures to remember the day! I will never forget the hospitality that was shown to me by the kind people at the ASYMCA, especially that of Shirley, and all those at Ft. Campbell. Thank you for all the memories!!!
Randy: Today was a great day to finally wrap up everything that we have been working so hard for all week. It was very bittersweet because it was awesome to be with the kids, but also knowing we won’t see them again is quite sad. I really enjoyed just watching all of their faces light up when they would get excited about something and that happened quite a lot. This has easily been the best spring break I’ve ever had!
Thalia: This day had so many highs and lows. We have become so close with the kids and have found out some of their family situations. These kids go through a lot, but are still light hearted and just want to be loved. It has been so great getting to know them and the military culture. Today we got to make space helmets, learn about galaxies and see an awesome puppet show. CJ has opened up so much within the past week and is just about the sweetest smartest kid. I’m going to miss him saying all the right answers under his breath and running around the play ground playing tag.
Angela: Today was a very sad day! It was time to leave our awesome kiddos. But of course it was a great day filled with a ton of space day activities. I ran the goop activity and the kids loved it! Although it was quite messy, it was a lot of fun! This week will never be forgotten! J
Good Evening! Levi here, reporting live for one last time in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Today was the concluding day of one of the most life-changing experiences of my entire life. It was filled with laughs, stories, playtime, crafts, and even a few tears. To me, everyone has a purpose in life. Mine is simple; to make a difference. My participation in MAB this week has allowed me to define that purpose. I have been able to make an impact on these kiddos lives by showing them that they are the most amazing people ever. Yet, they have also made a huge impact on myself as well. I will always carry the memories I have made here at Fort Campbell for the rest of my life. For all those that, “serve those who serve America,” stay classy!
Jessayyy: What an incredible week. Of course, it flew by, and I can’t believe we already have to leave this beautiful community. Not only did these kids leave a huge impact on us, I now have such respect for the women who work at the ASYMCA, and military families all over the country. These kiddos are amazing, and I just know they are going to grow up to do amazing things with their lives. It was so fun being a brief part of it! Signing out for my fourth and final alternative breaks trip ever. What an incredible organization that creates opportunities for people that will last a lifetime.
Hey pals! It’s Megan. I have enjoyed my time here learning about this amazing community and getting to serve the people who serve our country. I have loved every hug and high five that I got this week (and we got a bunch and I have loved every smile that I get to be a part of. But what I have learned to love the most is being able to see the kids making new friends and learning how to use their imaginations. MAB has created the best opportunities to serve communities that I would have never thought I would serve and that is “pretty cute” (as Lilly would say). Also, #foundpalmer
