Montezuma Creek, UT - Native American Issues (Post 1)

After 24 hours of driving, writing a new hit song, communicating between cars via walkie talkies, and playing a few car games the Utah Crew officially arrived in the quaint town of Bluff, Utah! We didn't get to venture around much upon arrival due to it being basically midnight, so we went straight to sleep so we could store up energy for our first full day in this beautiful state.

Waking up this morning we came to realize that thirty degrees in Utah feels like fifty degrees in CoMo, and so many of us stripped off our jackets and jumped in the vans to head into the Arches National Park. Our first stop of the morning was at a little gas station because we realized not many places are open on a Sunday. This gas station proved to be a wonderful stop though because this gas station was like no other; it included a bowling alley. Not exactly a frequent siting…

But anyways, after our stop for breakfast at the only open public place we could find we journeyed on a little longer when we came to the Hole N' The Rock, an eclectic tourist trap closer to Moab, Utah. Most of us immediately noticed a dune buggy placed at the top of the thousand-foot rock, Franklin Roosevelt carved into the rock, and signs pointing to a rare sighting of Bigfoot. We all looked like straight-up tourists with our iPhones and DSLR cameras snapping away. After about 30 minutes, our crew hopped back into the vans to finish our journey to Arches.

As we drove through the park, we were in awe of the beauty of the red rock formations. It honestly seemed like photos were being snapped every 5 seconds. And just so you all know, we hiked. We hiked 3 miles total to see the Delicate Arch, the most famous of all the arches in the park.

Still smiling while climbing up the red rock mountain!

Once we made it up to the top it was photos, tourists, and chipmunks galore. The view was beyond beautiful and it was great to see what other parts of the country had to offer as opposed to the plains of Missouri.

After our little hike, we finally had lunch/dinner (it was 4:00) at Pasta Jay's. Most of us had some pretty big bowls of pasta. We then went to buy some groceries for the first part of the week at two separate grocery stores (don't question it). And then we made our final trek back to Bluff.

All-in-all we had a full first day and we just can't wait to wake up bright and early tomorrow to serve some kiddos!
