Charleston 2 - Children (3/28)

Today was our last day of service, and by far the longest! We started our day off at Windwood Farm Home for Children where we got down with our green thumbs and did some landscaping! We stripped garden beds of old pine straw, violently decapitated weeds, and graced the ground with new flowers and shrubbery.

After our gardening adventure, eating lunch, and laying in the Sweet Carolina sun, we headed to WINGS to spend our last afternoon with the kids. We were elated to see that today's "Wildwings" theme was Allstar March Madness! Each nest was given an NBA team name in order to get pumped up for the basketball festivities that were going to take place. You could tell that it was almost spring break because the kids were rowdier and crazier than they have been all week.
At the end of WINGS was the March Madness basketball tournament where students, parents, and even a few of us ASBers played in short 5 minute games. The competition was tough, but our very own Ashley Hogrebe made it to the semi-finals! Although none of us won a fancy basketball award, we each got "Thank You" certificates that are worth more than any basketball award in the world.

Tomorrow we're waking up early, packing up the vans, and heading to downtown Charleston and the beach for some R&R before getting back on the road towards USC and finally Columbia!

Catch you later, South Carolina! It's been real.
