“So. Y’all know how to Twerk it?”
Here are some highlights from the drive down to Alabama:
-
Naomi was 35 minutes late and then acted like we
were running behind to pick her up (“So, I’m waiting on the curb, where are
yall?”)
-
Treyon pretended to be ready and then fell back
asleep while we waited outside his apartment
-
Lambert’s. Rolls are thrown. The rumors are
true.
-
Brittni’s hair looked great throughout the
entire road trip.
-
“Emily looks like a girl who knows how to
twerk.” – Treyon
-
Sidenote: Emily cannot twerk.
-
Alyssa drives like an 105 year old woman who has
no where to be because all of her friends died years ago.
We rolled up to St. Francis of Assisi at 7:45 PM and a
wonderful woman named Angela showed us around the beautiful retreat center,
which we were pretty sure was the nicest ASB facility until we saw that one
group staying somewhere with a pool and we’re not bitter we’re just saying, our
housing is blessed by Father Paul and we doubt your pool has holy water so whatever.
Oh, and we met Father Paul, who has an undetectable accent and is generally
freaking awesome.
The retreat center we’re staying in is a spacious old brick
building with a large kitchen, open dining area and comfortable living room.
There are more than enough rooms upstairs to stay in, each with four beds and a
bathroom. We saw that on of the ASB groups is staying in that creepy cabin from
that one horror movie, and we’re sorry for you.
After settling in, Amber, BK and Emily did some yoga, which
Treyon called “yogurt” and consistently shook his head at (“I don’t understand
yogurt. Just twerk instead”). Nick and Alyssa established a schedule and
koom-by-yah share circle after each service day as well as beginning word-assassin.
Some people got really difficult terms like “Carnival Cruise” and “Kryptonite”.
Others, namely the person who was given Brittni, had incredibly easy words like
“squat” that guarantee that she would get out quickly. I’m sure that was not
Nick’s intention the same way I’m sure Bill Self’s hair is real.
We also went around and stated our reasons for preferencing
this trip and learned some pretty awesome things like…
-
Naomi is an amazing poet who feels passionately
about social justice issues (she studies AIDs trends in African American women
in the D.C. area). She also writes plays!
-
Amber’s mom is a Nurse Practiconer who works
with infectious diseases and she has a ton of background with AIDs research
-
Wes and Troy work out together all the time
-
Alyssa is extremely interested in public health
policy
-
Ashley loves to rock climb
We passed the rest of the evening playing Werewolf, Signs,
and various card games, all of which Alyssa is really awful at.
