Hello World,
We had an amazing day with Furkids! We have been blessed to work with amazing individuals at the shelter and they have been beyond hospitable. Not only did they buy us breakfast every morning, but they also provided us lunches! We're not talking PB&J's or lunchmeat sandwiches; we're talking Chic-fil-A, Papa John's, Artisan Cupcakes, and Boulevard Diner. As much as we love food, we also cherish the opportunity to work with the largest no-kill and cage-free animal shelter in Georgia!
Today, we spent our morning at the Main Cat Shelter, Lunch at Boulevard Diner, a stop at the Furkids Thrift Store, and finishing off our final day at the Main Cat Shelter. Tomorrow, we will be volunteering at the Small Dog Rescue Center. It's amazing that we get to work with our issue of Animal Welfare in a variety of ways.
Our work at the shelter consisted of the basics of cleaning, and caring for the animals! The set-up of the shelter is the most amazing part, there are cats EVERYWHERE! There are different rooms in the shelter that each contain 20+ cats with differing characteristics. For example, there is a room with fat cats. We do everything from sweeping, mopping, giving attention to, and brushing the cats. The best part about the work has to be interacting with the cats and regular volunteers. Learning their stories, the cats' backgrounds, and even seeing adoptions happen is so heartwarming!
Furkids started with one woman, the current director, finding a lost mother cat and kittens with no home and being unable to find a shelter to take her in in 2002. She took the initiative to create this organization and it truly has blossomed and is continuing to grow, we're glad we had an opportunity to be a part of it! It's truly great that this organization has grown so much and remained true to its roots of being a no-kill and cage-free animal shelter. Thank you Furkids!
Here are some of the highlights of the day!
1. Donating 200 items to the shelter!
2. Bonding with the cats and kittens of Furkids and tearfully saying our goodbyes.
3. Furkids Shirts!
4. Lunch at Boulevard Diner (Gyros and Matzo Ball Soup).
5. Visiting the Thrift Store and viewing another operational arm of Furkids.
6. Bonding with all the participants playing Ultimate Frisbee at Grant Park.
7. Cooking dinner! We had spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread. Dinner conversations are always fun!
8. Playing Fishbowl Colander! A game similar to Catch Phrase and Charades but on steroids!
Best,
Atlanimals
