Howdy from NashVegas!!!
We departed Columbia, MO yesterday, bright and early, to what will be the first of many "Call Me Maybe" sing-a-longs. We hit the road and after a few mix-ups with following the wrong vehicles, we ended up in Sikeston, MO to have lunch at Lambert's with the Memphis trip. We had a fantastic time catching, and sometimes dodging rolls. After rolling ourselves back to the vans, we embarked on our final league to Nashville by taking a "scenic route." Thanking you, Google Maps, for taking us to the middle of nowhere, and by that, we mean Cairo, Illinois. It was like zombie apocalypse meets the town in "Deliverance."
Fun fact about Cairo:
It was evacuated last May because the Army Corps of Engineers wanted to direct a flood through it instead of all the other towns on the Mississippi
Several winding roads later, we took a pitstop in the middle of Kentucky and ran into an entire van of Mizzou Club Baseball players!! It was great to run into some fellow Tigers!!
We arrived in Nashville in the late afternoon and got settled into St. Augustine's Episcopal church smack dab in the middle of Vanderbilt's campus! Our contact for our housing, Kay, is the sweetest lady and made sure we were very comfortable! We are also in the middle of their Greek town and a short walk away from many Nashville attractions. We had a quick dinner at Moe's, which is a little like Chipotle. We all agreed Columbia needs one!
Yesterday was a great day full of bonding and little relaxation before starting a busy week of working at Kindred Spirits, a therapeutic horseback riding center that helps kids with physical and behavioral disabilities. We are all so excited to begin our service!
It's going to be a great week! Stay tuned!
