After a full day in the mountains, we headed back to our temporary home. We met up with Jessica, our service coordinator, who outlined what we will be doing for the week. From there we headed over to Open Door Ministries for our first service project. We assisted with EAT (Eating All Together) a meal provided after church that primarily serves the homeless population.
During the meal, outside of assisting with basic waiter/waitress duties we were encouraged to sit down and get to know the diners. April and I had the chance to meet with two exceptionally special men who shared their unwavering faiths with us. One of the men gave us his three keys to life: being humble, being patient, and always keeping your faith with you. The other man, Bruce, shared with us his appreciation for Denver and what makes the Open Door church such a special place to worship. It was great to hear how optimistic and trusting people can be in situations most of us couldn't imagine. Alicia was even offered a husband—the son of one of the patrons. Though we couldn't take photos during the meal for privacy purposes, here's a couple from cleanup:
