New Orleans 2 - Animals

Today was our first day at Animal Rescue New Orleans.  As we were driving to our site, we couldn't help but notice houses that had been affected by Katrina.  There are still houses with X's on the exterior.  When we got there and we were surprised by how unwelcoming the neighborhood was towards ARNO. The area is very industrial and the adjacent business had signs that said "DOGS NOT PERMITTED ON PROPERTY" every 10 feet lining the sidewalk.  Even so, we were welcomed by the dogs and the volunteers

We learned about all of the procedures and split up into groups.  As we worked, many of us were wondering what would happen if we weren't there.  There were, at max, 3 people there with us.  It took all of us until 12:30 to finish with the cats and the dogs still had some cages to clean.  Sean and Alyssa had their first interaction with Pit Bulls.  ARNO has many Pits in their shelter.  They both were really nervous at first, but soon realized the stereotype was untrue.  Tillie was the first of the Pits that we saw when we walked in the shelter and she was a DOLL!  She was so sweet and just wanted some TLC.

After Animal care, some organizing, and of course a nap we are ready to head back for round two! We're hoping for a warmer morning than we had today!
