New Orleans 2 - Homeless Animals

Thursday:

Today at the shelter we decided to add our own personal touch to each dog's cage by creating nametags and descriptions of their personalities and appearance. As the week has progressed, we have built special relationships with each animal, some of us finding particular favorites. Jayme was able to walk Emerald today, who at this point last year was extremely feral and unable to appreciate any human contact. Emily was able to work with Zeus, an older pit bull, and helped him to practice sitting. Kelsey hung out with Mischief today, a dog confined completely to his kennel due to his aggressiveness, and was able to give him treats. Kenzie and Leanne gave baths to James and Noche, loving puppies that were previously adopted but were returned to ARNO for unknown reasons.

This evening we ventured down to the French Quarter to go on a Phantoms tour, describing some history of New Orleans in a fun and interesting way. Various stories of "haunted" buildings in the area were told by our tour guide, Hope, who was a theatrical delight.

This week is truly flying by as we are excited to see many of the animals go to PetCo and hope that many of our favorites and others find homes on adoption day. Since the beginning of the week we have seen an improvement in the behaviors and morale of the animals and staff of ARNO. Seeing the impact we are making is truly gratifying and leaving at the end of the week is going to be difficult on all of us.
