Chicago-Women's Issues

3/28/12

After swearing an oath of leaving on time last night, we were compelled to function in the wee hours of the morning (read: 9 am). On top of the three pots of coffee we made, Allana, Haley, and Kelsey slaved over our tiny, crooked stove and churned out enough pancakes and eggs to feed an army (yeah, it was pretty good). We made our way to the neighborhood L station almost on time and made it downtown bright and early where we split in two groups: one venturing to the Art Institute of Chicago and the other making the trek across the city to the Field Museum. Sean name-dropped every artist in the book while Carlos and Theo waxed poetic about water lilies, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Van Gogh's "The Bedroom" (it was great). Although the Field Museum group was not moved to tears, they were thoroughly fascinated by the mammoth (mommath? mummath?) exhibit and Sue, the most complete tyrannosaurus skeleton, possibly elbowing third graders out of the way to get a better look.

After the museum trips, we all met up to recaffeinate before dividing back up to head out to our respective shopping destinations: the Magnificent Mile for the traditionalists on our trip and a trendy neighborhood called Wicker Park for all our hipsters. We stood in awe of all of the high-end shopping on Michigan Avenue, but we ended up bargain hunting, which, unfortunately, means our ride back is going to be even "cozier." The Wicker Park group perused a three-story used bookstore called Myopic and returned with some super cool stuff, although they all claimed to not be hip enough for the shops. Theo, in between minor injuries, made the day a very uplifting musical event.

Post-shopping exhaustion, our groups reunited at Starbucks and made the brave decision to stuff our faces with deep-dish pizza at a wonderful place called Giordano's. Let's just say, it was a life-altering experience. Haley went as far as requesting that her future spouse use it to propose to her. Hilary used the word "orgasmic." We all agreed emphatically.

Now we wish you all a good night. We have a big day ahead of us and are pretty much falling asleep writing. Good night, sweet readers, dream of cheesy goodness. We will too.

Love and deep-dish pizza,

ASB Chicago
