Day one was an overall success. We already feel like a "baby" family. I'm guessing our 5:30am wake up call may have had something to do with that, maybe not. We had intentions to be on the road by 6:00am but due to some hilarious road bumps, we were a little late. By the time we made it on I-70 at 6:45am, we already had tons of stories and laughs to share. We made a quick stop in St. Louis to pick up the last two members of our trip, and then we were on our way. With 11 people split between two seven-seater Dodge Caravans, I'd say it was a comfortable ride. We made our first stop in a small town in Indiana for gas and bathroom breaks, and then we made our first real stop in Louisville for lunch at a local Subway. After lunch, we took one more gas stop, and finally made our way into Knoxville. We met Trinity, a Habitat For Humanity coordinator, at the actual Habitat For Humanity building. She led us to where we'd be staying; an unfurnished house complete with hot water, electricity, and no curtains. After spending a bit of time cozying up our new living space (taping newspaper to the windows), we made our way to Waffle House for dinner. After we ate, we went to Wal-Mart to pick up essentials and made our way back home. The trip back home turned into a tour of Knoxville as we got a little lost, but after some time we made it. Once we were back to the house, we unrolled sleeping bags and talked for a while. Sleep came soon after.
