Well we made it, but barely. After numerous wrong turns, some gravel roads, and getting stuck in a ditch up in the mountains, we arrived at Winterhawk Lodge at about 10:00 p.m. Colorado time. Unfortunately Kathy was out of town for the day, but Ron was ready to welcome us with his cowboy hat and boots!
After we got settled in, Ron gave us a brief history of the area and the Natives that live here. We also learned there is a friendly "spirit" who lives on the land…which I did not sign up for. But he claims the spirit is friendly (especially if you leave food for him!)
After what turned out to be about a 20+ hour car ride, of course we were exhausted and all we could think about was bed. Which explains why this is the end of the blog. Hopefully we will avoid all encounters with this spirit. Tune in tomorrow for details about our trip to Mesa Verde (home turf of Erin, aka Mother Verde). Our blogs will most likely come in the mornings (I'm afraid to walk up to the cabins with WiFi in the dark because of the spirit….)
