New Orleans 1 - Habitat For Humanity

Greetings!

After a long night (thanks to some other students staying in the church), we woke up and set out for our third day at Habitat.  We were back at our original site since the house we had been working on was just about all finished. The house is being inspected this Friday!

At the site, we broke off into two groups. Half of us stood on ladders and hung up something that was kind of like siding mixed with roofing (I was not in this group so I really have no idea what they were doing), and the other half worked on the floors of the house. We all thought this would be a semi-easy task until we realized we had to cut the floor pieces so they would fit like a puzzle. We only finished half so hopefully we can finish it up tomorrow.

When our service was over, we decided to drive through the ninth ward.  It’s hard to believe that Hurricane Katrina happened over 10 years ago and there is still so much destruction and poverty.  We even made a quick stop on the way at a war battleground/plantation home.

Tonight, Summer, Melissa and Adam are making pizza, macaroni and cheese and brownies. Can you tell we like to eat healthy? It’s hard for me to believe that tomorrow is already our last day here in New Orleans. It’ll be bittersweet to leave such a great city with even greater people.
