Georgetown- Habitat for Humanity

Hello... it's us

The struggle was real getting up for service day numero dos, but after chugging coffee and scarfing down muffins for bwekfast, the crew was out the door and ready to start the day. At the Habitat affiliate we finally got to meet Chris, the construction director, who had us divide and conquer to work on multiple tasks at different locations around town. Group one consisted of Lena, Ashley, Randi, Chanci, yung Meg, and both Graces who worked alongside Ron (our new BFF) priming, painting, and caulking a house that had been heavily damaged by flooding. The floods that occurred this past summer destroyed multiple houses in the area and unfortunately displaced many families, so the girls had their work cut out for them. The work was tedious and tiring, but after some lunch (not for Lena ), Red bulls, and yes, more coffee (shocker), they knocked out the whole house and got another step closer to moving the family back into their beloved home!

Group number two consisted of the boyz. Nick and Zach had the pleasure to work with our new friend Mike, a Habitat affiliate supervisor, in reorganizing the storage area at the Habitat affiliate. Habitat sells slightly used furniture through its Restore shop. Recently the Restore shop has been relocated from the affiliate and lots of organization was needed. With their brute strength they unloaded two storage trailers of donated doors and insulation. Once all of the materials were unloaded, they organized the storage area so that it could be most effectively utilized for future volunteers. Needless to say they won't be able to raise our arms above our heads tomorrow (: For lunch they had the great opportunity to dine in a bountiful harvest of KFC and PowerAde's mystic mountain blueberry with great stories about Mike's past career and time with habitat. #WeDemBoyz

The last group included Arianna, Jessica (mom) and Taylor who drove up to Andrews, SC about 20 minutes away to work on another house that had been damaged by the flood. This house is in its final stages, so they worked on the flooring and crown molding throughout the house. Jessica and Arianna got to work with an amazing Habitat volunteer named Carol who taught them how to lay flooring down. It wasn't an easy task but it was extremely rewarding to see the work done at the end of the day. Taylor also learned how to caulk and worked hard at it all day. They all got to take a break outside for lunch and played with the adorable Pitbull named Baby! By the end of the day the flooring and baseboards were completed and the house is just about ready to be moved back into!

By the end of our service day, we were more than ready for TACO TUESDAY, a Mexican themed dinner prepared by Chanci, NIck, and the lovely Graces. It was truly a fiesta. Then we gathered with our friends from the University of Maryland to laugh ourselves out of breath, featuring Josh's phenomenal charades skills during a game of Heads Up. We reflected, bonded, laughed, and became weirdly closer tonight, and as a result we're truly sad that the fun-filled day has already come to an end. But as always, we look forward to doing it all again in just 7 short hours. Stay tuned!

Love,
