Twin Cities (Minneapolis) - Women's Advocacy (3)

Greetings from bright and sunny Minnesota (LOL JK it snowed the last two days)!

Today we had to get up really early and it sucked. It was one of those moments that we regretted being here (LOL JK our trip has been fantastic so far!!).  Once we got ready, we got to our worksite and were reminded why we are waking up so early was to serve these two really amazing organizations: Minnesota African Women's Association (MAWA) and Minnesota Indian Women Resource Center (MIWRC). We first went to the MIWRC, and cleaned the walls and windows of the first and second floor. The human resource manager took us on a tour of the offices and we met the dedicated employees of the resource center. After the tour was finished, we came back to the church to eat some lunch and relax for an hour before we went onto our next service site, MAWA.
When we arrived, we met the founder of MAWA, took a couple photos, then went to one of the high schools that assists in coordinating with the MAWA programs, and met and talked with around seven of the high school women in the program. We were a bit uncomfortable being in a high school again and were startled when the intercom went off. We were able to tell that some of the young women were masking some more serious questions was drama in the real world or if we had boyfriends, but as time went on we started to get more in depth with college experiences and addressing any of the concerns the young women had about college. We were a little surprised how sororities became a large part of the discussion.
Today is Queen Nay's birthday, so after we took a picture with the awesome young women we celebrated by eating dinner at Houlihan's. She got a very delicious free dessert and tonight we are eating cupcakes to celebrate (but keep it on the DL). We will have a reflection tonight as well, and then get some sleep on our quality air mattresses.

Peace n' love,
Bridge & KB
