Lincoln - Animals (5)

On Thursday, we visited Towne and Country Humane Society to help transport bales of hay and clean out chicken coops and outdoor kennels. Between the twelve of us, we were able to clear out half of a barn full of hay bales in under an hour. The highlight of the day for most of us was hanging around farm animals; we spent most of the day interacting with chickens, pigs, dogs and horses. Many of us had never been around farm animals before, and we all enjoyed sharing the experience.

Most of our time was spent chasing and petting chickens; the biggest takeaway from our day of service on Thursday was the principle of Being Gumby: our intended guide had called in sick and the society was very well-run and organized, without many extra chores that the remaining Society workers could pass on to us. We had a fantastic time coming up with ways to help out on our own though, and at the end of the day we felt like we made an impact with those helpful chores!
