Dallas 1 - Homelessness (4)

Greetings loved ones,

Today can be summarized in one word: Gumby.

Our crew was practicing the principle of "Being Gumby" today as we hit quite a few snags. I'm sorry to be the one to type it but our devoted and amazing site leader Morgan will be leaving tomorrow. She spent most the day in urgent only to find out she has tonsillitis and apparently some pretty bad luck. I speak for all of us when I say she will be missed but her service started long before we made it to Dallas. Shoutout to her for all the planning, patience and amazing presence she has had within the group. Today we started the day off a little late, waking up on a few minutes before we had to leave. Although we were sluggish to start Mrs. Becky had breakfast for us and that lifted our spirits. Later we went to Dallas Life and served an incredible meal of BBQ chicken (yum!). The gratitude of each individual we served and served with encouraged us and our efforts. Then we made our way back to Mrs. Becky's for lunch and more turnip picking. We were clearing and harvesting to make way for a new tomato crop. Our group had to split up mid-afternoon to safely transport everyone (MAB rules on point) safely to Family Gateway. Once we got there we were greeted with smiles from the kids. The boys became make-shift jungle gyms as the kids started jumping on their backs. Kara and Meg made the most beautiful little garden outside the entrance complete with lavender and sweet potato plants. Although there were many ups and downs there was no better way to end the day than walking out of Family Gateway with kids clapping and hugging us, high five-ing us as we walked down the hallway and hearing them safe, "Can't wait to see you again!"

Zach Sharp and James made breakfast for dinner! James nailed the pancakes and Zach made bacon, eggs and harsh browns that could rival an Denny's. When we all finally made it back to the church we saw James really "feel it" while playing Guitar Hero and we all shared a great heart to heart during discussing. I can't even begin to explain how lucky we all are to be here and I think today has reminded us of that. Although we won't sleep much tonight I think we are all refueled and refocused on our goal. I can't wait to see what the rest of the week has in store.

Much love,

Your MABers <3
